Hey!
I hope you’re all having (or about to have) a lovely weekend. It’s glorious weather down in the south west of England, perfect for a few trips to the beach… Or the pub!
This post is to let you know that you’ve voted for The Tempest as the Shakespeare play to discuss this April.
It’s totally up to you how you’d like to engage with it, but I’m going to be watching it as it’s been some time since I’ve watched The Tempest.
Where can you find it?
You can:
Find a copy of the play and read it without translation, hardcore style.
Find a copy of the play alongside the modern English translation. You can get these in book format, or online via somewhere like LitCharts.
Watch the play being performed (like me) either on stage or on film!
If you want to watch The Tempest:
You can watch the 2010 film with Helen Mirren as Prospera (adapted from Prospero, who was previously a man) here. Side note: This unfortunately has Russell Brand featured, who given recent news I am sure many of us will want to avoid.
You can watch the remastered 1960 version of The Tempest on YouTube, featuring Maurice Evans and Richard Burton, right here.
A 2013 version of The Tempest, featuring Roger Allam, Jessie Buckley, and Colin Morgan, and performed at The Globe Theatre, can be found here. There is a fee to watch or subscribe, but this is an authentic play performance.
When should we discuss it?
I am completely open to modifying the time that we discuss this one! We could look at the weekend of the 26th/27th of April, or even discuss midweek.
Please leave a comment on this post and let me know what days and times work best for you—just be sure to mention your time zone as well!
Weekend of the 26/27 is good for me, but I am very flexible. I am US EST. If it is going to be a weekday, preferably some time between 9am-12pm or 4pm-6pm. Not Mondays. For being flexible, I sure am picky🤭 Looking forward to reading the play and discussing with ❣️
