Welcome to the first voting session for the Classical Book Club!

I’ve picked four books to get started with for our first novel. Since it’ll be taking place in October, I thought it would be fun to kick off with a classic novel for Halloween.

I’ve picked out four for you to choose from. They’re all relatively short reads to kick us off, and I’ve given you a bit of information from which to choose.

We Have Always Lived in the Castle - Shirley Jackson

Taking readers deep into a labyrinth of dark neurosis, We Have Always Lived in the Castle is a deliciously unsettling novel about a perverse, isolated, and possibly murderous family and the struggle that ensues when a cousin arrives at their estate.

Frankenstein - Mary Shelley

A twisted, upside-down creation myth, Mary Shelley's chilling Gothic tale lays bare the dark side of science, and the horror within us all. It tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, who plunders graveyards to create a new being from the bodies of the dead - but whose botched creature causes nothing but murder and destruction. Written after a nightmare when its author was only eighteen, Frankenstein gave birth to the modern science fiction novel.

The Turn of the Screw - Henry James

For those who still dream and remember, for those yet to experience the hypnotic power of its dark poetry, step inside. The show is about to begin.
